- Satisfied elder participants
The beauty of ElderFriends is that both our elder and volunteer participants benefit from the opportunity to join in friendship. For an elder, having a friendly visiting volunteer can significantly reduce isolation and feelings of loneliness and depression. And at the same time it offers the opportunity to share a wealth of life experiences with a younger generation, or to reminisce with a peer.
Do you know someone over the age of 65 who needs companionship and would like to have a friendly visitor? Social service providers, family members, and neighbors are all welcome to refer someone for our services. You can also refer yourself!
Criteria for participating elder:
Must be interested in having a friendly visitor
Age 65+
Still live independently (apartment or home) or be otherwise isolated and lonely in his/her living situation
Have no family/friends that visits regularly
Not be bed-ridden or battling terminal illness
Not be diagnosed with Alzheimer's or dementia
Lauren and Alicia, friends since January 2006. These two hit it off from the start - on their first visit they did
